First, stop for lunch at Harding Park by Lake Merced. The statue of King Carlos III has an interesting history.
First, the African section.
After a brief stop by some monkeys,
we head for the bird section.
Next stop, the Children's Zoo.
Finally, rest after a hard day of labor.
My Thai for dinner.
Stopped by Brad Gilbert's Tennis Nation store in the morning.
Started off in Pier 39 in the morning.
And then headed to Alcatraz. Took the cruise and landed on the island.
Trekked our way up the hill to the cell house.
Got our audio equipment ...
... and we're off.
Cells with character.
and one with an inmate in bed (escape attempt.)
The dining area & kitchen were great. Very good food (seriously) and very well presented.
The way down ...
... and back to the mainland.
First, some minor detours including the Marin Civic Center.
Played with the Green Lady.
And we're off. First, marine life.
One particularly beautiful display was the one with the Moorish Idol and Butterfly fish. Trivia -- the Moorish Idol fish has been the emblem of the Steinhardt Aquarium since 1923.
Next we stopped by the "swamp" (we think) with an albino alligator.
Moving into the Africa section.
Amazingly, penguins in Africa -- at the southern tip, Cape of Good Hope.
A whole section on the Galapagos Islands and Evolution.
And we wound up at the play area and then left.
Actually, we went to the Rainforest Area after this, but the camera battery had run out so this didn't really exist.
